Ball bearing is a type of rolling element uses balls to maintain the contact between two bearing races. The balls inside the ball bearings are applied to reduce the rotation friction between the two bearing races.  It achieves this by using at least two races to contain the balls and transmit the loads through the balls. In most applications, one race is stationary and the other is attached to the rotating assembly (e.g., a hub or shaft). As one of the bearing races rotates it causes the balls to rotate as well. Because the balls are rolling they have a much lower coefficient of friction than if two flat surfaces were sliding against each other. (Click here to learn more knowledge of bearings)

What are types of ball bearings?
According to its structure and working methods, ball bearings can be divided into four types:
Radial insert ball bearings
Deep groove ball bearings
Self-aligning ball bearings
Angular ball bearings
Single thrust ball bearings

With steel balls, the ball bearings can rotate very fast. Ball bearings are optimized for radical contact, and double row ball bearings are optimized for angular contact. Single row ball bearings are used for moderate loads, if you would like to bear more loads, double row ball bearings will work. Ball bearings are the most common bearing type in applications due to its low cost and simple construction.

What are ball bearings used for?
Ball bearings are widely applied in different fields. You can found them in automotive industry, and large mechanic industry such as cars, motors, blenders or even exercise equipment such as DVD player, hard drive, washing machines or other places that use a motor.
With long term usage, ball bearings may needs maintainence and handling. While some of them needs lubricant and clearance, while some not. You need to make sure your ball bearings are in good conditions. A replacement is needed once the ball bearing is damaged.
